Our mission

Mo is about empowering Africans with high quality, premium refurbished phones, available for everyone. We believe that quality mobile phones help create opportunity and the way to get them in the hands of all Aricans is through circular models.

Our devices are sourced and refurbished internationally and are high-quality, affordable and have a positive sustainability impact. We offer them to consumers in plans that allow for micropayment so they really are ‘the smart choice’.

What we do

At the heart we are a technology marketplace that offers trust and transparency so that our users can opt for renewed products with confidence and ease. Our integrated financing solutions make them accessible for any budget. Every device we sell is backed by a solid in-house warranty.

We work with the world’s best refurbishing companies to offer our products in Kenya and soon across all of Africa and we have local operations out of Nairobi - supported by a globally distributed technology team.

The position

Title: Marketing Manager

Seniority: Manager

Reporting line: MoPhones Head of Growth (co-founder)

Engagement: Full-time

Description

As our Marketing Manager, you will build up our brand awareness on digital and offline platforms and create valuable engagements that will help drive Mo’s commercial growth. In this role you combine strategic thinking with getting your hands dirty. You will start with one assistant focused on social media content but we expect you to build a small team over time. We believe that growing trust and awareness of our brand is crucial to the company’s growth and hence the role of marketing manager is super relevant. We are looking for someone that wants to combine digital and on-ground strategies but build a brand known to everyone in Nairobi and beyond. We want the rare creative thinker who also loves numbers, and who is both excited to come up with inspired ideas to get everyone excited about us, and to do hard-core analysis of how those ideas and their implementation are performing.

As we want to be a product-led company, the only path to sustained success is through data and informed decision making. This has to be your nature: make decisions based on insights and analysis - less so on gut-feel.

To ensure success, you should exhibit unwavering authenticity and thoughtfulness about our company's interests. Be able to drive things on your own. We expect you to be culturally literate and keenly responsive to feedback.

Reporting

We expect you to be rather independent and get yourself ‘out there’. You will report to the company founder responsible for growth. Initially you will work with the various part time contributors that have helped us out so far, but we expect you to build a dedicated team over time.

We expect you to be working from our Westlands office.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy development:
    • You develop and implement our marketing strategy, both digital and offline (PR, OOH etc), with choice of digital/non-digital mix to be part of your strategy, and set clear and realistic goals (and measure and track them)
  • Online channel management
    • You manage our social media channels (including the creation of content, setting up of campaigns, media buying, and interaction with users)
    • You identify relevant influencers and approach them to contract them in our plan
    • You work together with our commercial and customer teams to leverage social media to help them achieve their goals
    • You set up content creation partnerships and implement tools to track and improve engagement - including for SEO
  • Offline channel management
    • You manage content creation and buying for offline channels
  • Quality Control
    • You review and guard quality of the content generated
  • Tracking, measurement and analysis
    • You set up measurement and tracking of campaign impact
    • You constantly iterate media based on results, always bringing us closer to optimal results.
    • You are always aware of how our spend is performing and why, and have a plan for what to change when it is not.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Product, Technology, or Business
  • 5 years progressive experience in marketing, ideally with understanding of both the creative side and the numbers side
  • A natural interest and excitement for marketing and social media and a good understanding of trends; experience with working with influencers is a pro
  • Ability to articulate & adjust messaging to align to our target audience
  • Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional content and editing skills with a keen eye for detail
  • A meticulous, detail-oriented person who is innately curious & a quick study
  • Experience in social media management tools and analytics platforms
  • Strong in data analysis

Characteristics

  • Outcome driven with action bias
  • Excitement to get your ‘hands dirty’
  • Sense of urgency
  • Decision maker
  • Project management skills
  • Ruthless prioritization
